The Baltimore Ravens, established in 1996, are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They are a member of the AFC North division in the National Football League (NFL). Known for their strong defensive play and passionate fan base, the Ravens have carved out a prominent place in the history of the league, boasting multiple Super Bowl titles and a reputation for resilience.
The Ravens were founded in 1996 when the Cleveland Browns relocated to Baltimore. The new franchise was named in honor of the famed American poet Edgar Allan Poe, who lived in Baltimore and is best known for his poem “The Raven.” The team adopted the raven as its mascot, and the name reflects the city’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
In their inaugural season, the Ravens struggled, finishing with a 4-12 record. However, under the leadership of head coach Ted Marchibroda and with a young core of players, the team showed promise and began to build a competitive roster. The following years saw gradual improvement, culminating in a breakthrough season in 2000.
