Claudette Rogers Robinson, born June 20, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American singer and songwriter, best known for her role as a founding member of the iconic Motown group The Miracles. Often referred to as the “First Lady of Motown,” Robinson played a significant role in shaping the sound of one of the most influential record labels in music history. As a member of The Miracles, she was part of a group that pioneered the Motown sound, blending pop, R&B, and soul music into a unique and groundbreaking genre.

Claudette Rogers grew up in Detroit, a city known for its rich musical heritage. Her interest in music began at an early age, and she was inspired by the gospel music she heard in church. She also listened to a wide variety of genres, which influenced her later musical style. Rogers was drawn to singing, and her talents were noticed while she was still a teenager. She attended Detroit’s Northeastern High School, where she met Smokey Robinson, who would become both a musical partner and her eventual husband.

In 1955, Claudette Rogers and Smokey Robinson formed a vocal group called The Five Chimes, which eventually became known as The Miracles. Initially, the group was composed of Robinson, Rogers, and a few other members, but it quickly evolved into a more established Motown act. The Miracles signed with Berry Gordy’s Motown Records in the early 1960s, becoming one of the label’s first successful acts.
