Born in the United States on July 17, 1942, Donald Eulon Kessinger is a retired baseball player and manager. From 1964 until 1979, he was a shortstop in Major League Baseball. He was best known for his stint with the Chicago Cubs when he won two Gold Glove Awards and was named to the All-Star team six times.

Near the conclusion of his career, he was a member of the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. Among baseball’s finest shortstops in the ’60s and ’70s, Kessinger was a mainstay throughout that decade. He and Glenn Beckert, the team’s second baseman, had a successful middle infield tandem for nine seasons running. Notably, he was the final player-manager in the history of the American League.

Kessinger attended the University of Mississippi after graduating from Forrest City High School in 1960. He was a four-sport All-State and All-America selection while playing for the Mustangs. While a Rebel, he was inducted into the Sigma Nu fraternity and was named to the All-SEC and All-America teams in baseball and basketball.
