John Mulaney, born on August 26, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American comedian, writer, actor, and producer, best known for his sharp wit, unique comedic perspective, and ability to craft hilarious, observational humor. Mulaney’s blend of clean humor, storytelling, and precise delivery has made him one of the most successful and respected stand-up comedians of his generation. He has also gained recognition for his writing, particularly for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL), where he became one of the standout writers and performers of the 2010s.

Mulaney grew up in a middle-class family in Chicago, where he attended St. Ignatius College Prep, an elite Catholic school. His parents, both of whom worked in law, instilled in him a love for language and communication. He later attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he studied English literature and developed his passion for comedy. During his college years, Mulaney began performing stand-up comedy at open-mic nights around Washington, D.C. His first taste of the comedy world came when he became a member of the Georgetown Improv Association, where he honed his skills and met other aspiring comedians.

After graduating from Georgetown in 2004, Mulaney moved to New York City to pursue a comedy career. He quickly became a fixture in the city’s vibrant comedy scene, performing at various clubs and open-mic nights. In 2008, Mulaney’s big break came when he joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live, one of the most prestigious comedy programs in the United States. During his time at SNL, Mulaney wrote and performed some of the show’s most iconic sketches, including the popular “Weekend Update” segment and memorable characters like Bill Hader’s impression of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.
