Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American computer programmer and internet entrepreneur best known as the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, Inc. Born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, Zuckerberg has played a pivotal role in transforming the way people communicate and share information globally.
Zuckerberg grew up in a well-educated family; his father, Edward Zuckerberg, is a dentist, and his mother, Karen, is a psychiatrist. He has three siblings and showed an early interest in computers and programming. By the age of 12, he had created a messaging program called “ZuckNet,” which allowed computers in his father’s dental office to communicate with each other.
Zuckerberg attended Ardsley High School and later transferred to Phillips Exeter Academy, where he excelled in mathematics and science. He was also involved in various extracurricular activities, including fencing and the school newspaper. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Harvard University in 2002, where he studied computer science and psychology.
While at Harvard, Zuckerberg developed a website called “Facemash” in 2003, which allowed students to compare the attractiveness of their peers. The site gained significant attention but was quickly shut down by the university for violating privacy regulations. Despite this setback, Zuckerberg’s passion for social networking led him to create “Thefacebook” in February 2004, a platform that allowed Harvard students to connect and share information.
