Noah Kahan was born on January 1, 1997, in Strafford, Vermont, a small rural town that would deeply influence his music and lyrical themes. Growing up in a close-knit family, Kahan was drawn to music at an early age, finding inspiration in the serene New England landscapes around him. Vermont’s beauty and isolation often appear in his lyrics, which reflect themes of nostalgia, love, mental health, and the longing for a sense of home. His love for music was evident from a young age, and by age eight, he was already experimenting with songwriting. Inspired by artists like Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, and The Lumineers, Kahan’s sound developed organically, blending elements of folk, pop, and indie rock with deeply personal lyrics.
Throughout his youth, Kahan honed his craft, writing songs that captured the authenticity of his small-town experience and resonated with universal emotions. He spent much of his teenage years uploading music to SoundCloud and performing wherever he could, from small local venues to school events. These early years were foundational to his eventual rise, building his confidence and establishing a fanbase that valued his relatable lyrics and soothing voice.
Kahan’s big break came in 2017 with his debut single, Young Blood, a song that would introduce his unique folk-pop sound to a global audience. “Young Blood” quickly went viral, resonating with listeners for its raw lyrics about youth, vulnerability, and resilience. The song’s success led Kahan to sign a record deal with Republic Records, one of the most prestigious labels in the industry. With Republic’s backing, he began working with renowned producers like Joel Little, who has collaborated with artists such as Lorde and Khalid.
