Pete Davidson, born on November 16, 1993, in Staten Island, New York, is an American comedian, actor, and writer known for his humor, candidness about mental health, and often controversial style. Davidson’s childhood was marked by a personal tragedy that shaped much of his later life: his father, Scott Davidson, was a New York City firefighter who died on September 11, 2001, during the World Trade Center attacks. Only seven at the time, Davidson was profoundly affected by the loss, leading to struggles with mental health, including depression and borderline personality disorder, which he has been open about in both his personal life and his comedy.
Davidson found solace in comedy at a young age, developing a sense of humor that often dealt with dark themes and personal issues. He began performing stand-up comedy in his teens, taking the stage for the first time at age 16. Despite a rocky start, he quickly honed his skills, drawing on his experiences and often using comedy as a form of therapy. By the age of 20, he was gaining attention in New York’s comedy scene and caught the eye of producers, landing early roles on MTV shows such as Guy Code and Wild ‘N Out.
In 2014, at just 20 years old, Davidson was cast on Saturday Night Live (SNL), making him one of the youngest cast members in the show’s history. His debut marked a significant turning point, as he brought a fresh and distinct voice to the iconic series. Known for his self-deprecating humor and no-holds-barred approach to topics like mental health, relationships, and pop culture, Davidson quickly became one of SNL’s standout performers. His “Weekend Update” segments, in particular, showcased his candid style and willingness to tackle sensitive issues head-on, including his experiences with mental illness, drug use, and his public relationships. Over his eight-season tenure on SNL, Davidson became known for his unique voice and unapologetic comedic style.
