Rose McGowan, born September 5, 1973, in Florence, Italy, is an American actress, activist, author, and prominent figure in the #MeToo movement. Known for her rebellious spirit and outspoken personality, McGowan became one of the most visible advocates against sexual harassment in Hollywood, transforming her career into a platform for social change. McGowan’s early life was unconventional; she was raised in a religious commune called the Children of God in Italy, where her parents were members. Her family left the commune when she was young, and she moved with her mother to the United States, where they settled in Oregon. From an early age, McGowan showed fierce independence and often clashed with traditional expectations.

McGowan’s career began with modeling and quickly transitioned to acting. At 16, she was legally emancipated and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. Her breakout role came in 1995 with the dark comedy The Doom Generation, which earned her significant attention and showcased her as a compelling talent. Soon after, McGowan starred in the horror-comedy Scream (1996), where she played the character Tatum Riley, the best friend of Neve Campbellā€™s protagonist. Scream was a massive success and solidified McGowan as a rising actress in the late 1990s. Her role in the film established her in the horror genre, earning her a following among fans of cult and genre cinema.

In 2001, McGowan joined the cast of Charmed, replacing actress Shannen Doherty as Paige Matthews, a long-lost half-sister of the Halliwell sisters. The supernatural drama was popular on The WB network, and McGowan remained on the show until its conclusion in 2006. Her portrayal of Paige resonated with fans and broadened her appeal, making her a staple of early 2000s television. During this time, McGowan also starred in movies such as Jawbreaker (1999), where she played a scheming high school student in a dark comedy that became a cult classic.
