Shaquille O’Neal, known as “Shaq,” is one of the most dominant basketball players in NBA history, as well as a successful businessman, entertainer, and media personality. Born on March 6, 1972, in Newark, New Jersey, Shaq’s early years were marked by challenges, including his father’s absence and frequent relocations with his stepfather, who served in the military.
This led to a disciplined upbringing, which influenced O’Neal’s future athletic career. He grew quickly, reaching 6 feet 6 inches by age 13, and showed a natural talent for basketball, dominating high school games in San Antonio, Texas. His performance earned him a scholarship to Louisiana State University (LSU), where he became a two-time All-American, National Player of the Year, and SEC Athlete of the Year.Shaq declared for the NBA Draft in 1992 and was selected first overall by the Orlando Magic.
