Wardell Stephen Curry II was born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio, to former NBA player Dell Curry and his wife Sonya. As the youngest of three children, Stephen grew up in a basketball-centric household, often attending games with his father, who played for the Charlotte Hornets. The family relocated to Charlotte when Stephen was a toddler, where he spent his formative years and developed a love for the game.
Growing up, Curry was heavily influenced by his father’s basketball career. Despite his exposure to the sport, Stephen faced challenges due to his size and physicality. Standing at just 6 feet tall, he was often overlooked by major college programs and had to work diligently to prove himself as a capable player. He attended Charlotte Christian School, where he excelled in basketball, leading his team to three conference titles while gaining recognition as a talented shooter.
Curry’s college career began at Davidson College, a small liberal arts school in North Carolina, in 2006. He was initially recruited as a point guard but transitioned to shooting guard due to his exceptional shooting ability. During his sophomore season in 2008, Curry gained national attention by leading Davidson to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight, becoming the tournament’s standout player. He averaged 25.9 points per game, showcasing his scoring prowess and ability to shoot from long range.
