Tom Felton, born Thomas Andrew Felton on September 22, 1987, in Epsom, Surrey, England, is an English actor and musician best known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series. Felton’s portrayal of the cunning Slytherin rival to Harry Potter left an indelible mark on the franchise and solidified him as a memorable face in cinema. In addition to his acting career, Felton has cultivated a love for music, often performing and recording songs that reflect his down-to-earth and introspective side.
Felton developed a love for performing from a young age. He began singing in church choirs at seven and joined the Guildford Cathedral Choir. His natural talent led him to acting, and by the time he was eight, he had already secured roles in commercials. Felton’s first film appearance was in The Borrowers (1997), where he played the mischievous Peagreen Clock. His charm and ease on camera quickly made him a young actor to watch, leading to his role in Anna and the King (1999), where he played Louis Leonowens, the son of Jodie Foster’s character. These early roles showcased Felton’s potential, but it was his next role that would change his career trajectory entirely.
In 2001, Felton was cast as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series. Draco, a privileged, arrogant student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is Harry Potter’s main school rival and a prominent Slytherin house member. Felton portrayed Draco with a mix of charm, menace, and vulnerability, capturing the complexity of the character. As the series progressed, his performance grew deeper and more nuanced, especially as Draco’s character evolved in later films, like Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2010-2011).
