Tucker Carlson, born May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, California, is an American television presenter, conservative political commentator, and journalist. He is best known for his role as the host of Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News, a primetime opinion and news show that became one of the highest-rated cable news programs in the United States during his tenure. Carlson is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in American media, particularly among conservative audiences, due to his strong opinions on political and social issues, his unapologetically right-wing perspective, and his willingness to challenge the political establishment.
Carlson was born into a well-connected family. His father, Dick Carlson, was a former ambassador to the Seychelles, and his mother, Lisa McNear, was an artist. Carlson spent part of his childhood in California before his family moved to La Jolla, a coastal community in San Diego, where he spent his high school years. He attended the prestigious Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where he studied history and graduated in 1991. Though Carlson had a keen interest in writing, his early career took a different direction as he became involved in journalism.
After graduating from college, Carlson entered the world of journalism, initially working for conservative-leaning publications. He began his career as a fact-checker for Policy Review, a publication affiliated with the Heritage Foundation. His writing soon appeared in major outlets, including The Weekly Standard, where he established himself as a prominent voice in conservative circles. In the early 1990s, Carlson also worked as a reporter for the New York Times Magazine and later for The New York Post, further expanding his journalistic profile.
