One of the first professional baseball teams in the United States, the Boston Red Stockings began play in 1871. The club moved to Boston in 1912 and then changed its name to the Milwaukee Braves in 1953, among other incarnations.

After relocating to Georgia’s capital city in 1966, the club became known as the Atlanta Braves. Truist Park, in Atlanta’s Cumberland district, is where the Braves play their home games.

The Braves have won the World Series thrice (1914, 1957, 1995). They are a National League East powerhouse and have won their division several times.

Hank Aaron, widely regarded as one of baseball’s all-time great hitters, is just one of many outstanding players to wear the Braves jersey. For a long time, Aaron owned the Major League Baseball record for most career home runs.

The club has had varying degrees of success throughout its history, with the 1990s being particularly memorable due to the team’s frequent postseason appearances and 1995 World Series triumph against the Cleveland Indians.

The tomahawk chop, performed by Braves fans at the beginning of each game, has become an internationally recognized symbol of team spirit.
