Born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, Eilish grew up in a family of musicians and actors, with her brother Finneas O’Connell becoming a crucial collaborator in her career.
She was homeschooled, which fostered her creativity and allowed her to experiment with music from a young age. By 11, Eilish was writing her songs, and by 13, she was recording music with her brother in their home studio, a collaboration that would propel them both to fame. Eilish’s breakthrough came in 2015 when she recorded the hauntingly ethereal “Ocean Eyes,” a song originally written by Finneas for his band.
They uploaded the song to SoundCloud to share it with a dance instructor, but it went viral overnight, attracting widespread attention.
