Ed Jones, born on December 23, 1949, in Jackson, Tennessee, is a former American football player best known for his time in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Dallas Cowboys as a defensive end and became one of the most dominant defensive players in the 1970s and 1980s. Jones was selected by the Cowboys with the first overall pick in the 1974 NFL Draft.
He played 15 seasons with the Cowboys (1974–1989) and was a key part of their defense during their successful run, including a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XII. Known for his power and speed, Jones earned the nickname “Too Tall” due to his towering 6’9″ frame, making him one of the tallest players in NFL history.
Jones was a two-time All-Pro and made three Pro Bowl appearances during his career. After retiring from football, he became involved in various business ventures and briefly returned to the NFL in 1991 for a short stint with the Dallas Cowboys.
