American model and actress Joan Staley rose to fame in the ’50s and ’60s because of her roles in films and TV shows. She was born Joan Lynette McConchie in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 20, 1940. Both of her parents were involved in music: her dad, James, was a clergyman, and her mom, Jean, was a singer. Joan developed an early passion for the stage in this artistic setting.

Because of her father’s job, Joan grew up in a transient household that settled in Los Angeles. Her foray into show business was virtually accidental. A talent scout saw Joan perform at a local theater when she was a teenager. Her first film role was in “The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker” (1958), in which she was uncredited.

When Joan Staley was named November’s Playmate of the Month by Playboy magazine in 1958, her career took a dramatic shift. She gained a lot of attention and modeling and acting gigs after her debut in Playboy. Joan became a popular model due to her magnetic personality and stunning good features.

In the 1960s, Staley had a golden age of acting. Some of her most notable television appearances were as a guest star on programs like “Perry Mason,” “Maverick,” “Hawaiian Eye,” and “The Untouchables.” “Broadside,” a comedic sitcom about Navy women, featured her in a prominent role as Roberta Love.
