American rock musician, songwriter, producer, and vocalist Josh Homme is well-known for his work in the genre. Joshua Tree, California native Homme has been a mainstay of the alternative and desert rock movements since his birth on May 17, 1973.

When Homme was a teenager in 1987, he started his musical career by forming the band Kyuss. The unique sound that Kyuss created by fusing heavy metal, psychedelic, and punk rock became instantly recognizable. Homme, who also sang on occasion, was instrumental in developing the band’s signature sound as guitarist and singer.

In 1995, after Kyuss broke up, Homme formed QOTSA, which would go on to become his most famous musical endeavor. After forming in 1996, QOTSA’s succeeding albums, such as “Rated R”(2000) and “Songs for the Deaf”(2002), and first album, “Queens of the Stone Age” (1998), were commercial and critical successes. In the early 2000s, QOTSA became one of the most original and influential rock bands thanks to their riff-heavy sound, Homme’s sophisticated guitar work, and his unique vocals.

In his time away from Queens of the Stone Age, Homme has worked on several side projects and collaborated with other artists. Along with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones, he created the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures in 2009, the same year they released their self-titled album. Homme has worked with a wide variety of musicians, including Arctic Monkeys, Iggy Pop, and his co-found band, Eagles of Death Metal.
