On July 9, 1969, Marc Mero was born in Buffalo, New York. Mero, who came from a poor background, showed an early love of athletics. He was a standout athlete at Kenmore East High School, especially in football and wrestling. Mero played football at the University of Central Florida before enrolling in college to further his aspirations of becoming a professional athlete after high school. But he quickly turned his attention to trying to make a living as a professional wrestler.
Under the ring moniker Johnny B. Badd, Mero started his wrestling career in the late 1980s. He joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1991 after rapidly becoming well-known on the independent circuit. Fans responded favorably to Mero’s flamboyant image, which was defined by vibrant clothing and an engaging demeanor. He rose to prominence in the Cruiserweight Division of WCW, taking home the WCW World Television Championship and earning praise for his talents in the ring.
