Born on January 23, 1964, in Santa Monica, California, Mariska Magdolna Hargitay is a well-known American actress. She is perhaps best recognized for her portrayal as Detective Olivia Benson in the popular television series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (SVU).

Mariska Hargitay is the offspring of bodybuilder/actor Mickey Hargitay and actress Jayne Mansfield. In the 1980s, she started appearing in films and television series, such as “Ghoulies” (1985) and “Falcon Crest.”

In 1999, she landed her breakout role as Detective Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: SVU.” Hargitay is widely regarded as one of the most famous figures in television history for her depiction of the caring and determined investigator, for which she has received several accolades and honors.
