Martha Reeves is an iconic American singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of the Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas. Born on July 18, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, she has been a prominent figure in the music industry since the 1960s, renowned for her powerful voice and energetic stage presence.
Martha Rose Reeves grew up in a musical family, where her love for music blossomed early on. She attended the University of Detroit, where she studied music and began her career as a secretary at Motown Records in the early 1960s. This position not only allowed her to witness the inner workings of the music industry but also allowed her to collaborate with various artists.
In 1962, Reeves formed Martha and the Vandellas with fellow singers Rosalind Ashford and Annette Beard. The group quickly gained recognition with their energetic sound and captivating performances.
