Ozzy Osbourne, born on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, is a rock music legend and a forefather of the heavy metal subgenre. Ozzy became famous as the main singer of Black Sabbath, and his nickname, “Prince of Darkness,” stuck.

Osbourne formed Black Sabbath in the late ’60s with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. Their 1970 self-titled first album is widely regarded as the first heavy metal recording. The band’s unprecedented success may largely be attributed to Ozzy’s unique and haunting vocals and Iommi’s renowned guitar riffs.

Black Sabbath released great albums during Osbourne’s tenure, including “Paranoid,” “Master of Reality,” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.” However, in 1979, he was kicked out of the band for reasons related to his personal problems and drug usage.

Ozzy, however, was encouraged and went on to have an as, if not more, successful solo career. In 1980, he released his first solo album, titled “Blizzard of Ozz,” which spawned the songs “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” Osbourne’s solo work highlighted his versatility and capacity for reinvention across genres.

Ozzy Osbourne is well-known for his music and reality program, “The Osbournes,” which gave an intimate glimpse into his family life. Despite his health problems and battles with addiction, Ozzy Osbourne is still widely regarded as a pioneer in the heavy music genre and revered for his unique voice and commanding stage presence.
