Stacey Augmon went to Pasadena’s John Muir High School as a kid growing up in Southern California. He then spent 1987–1991, playing collegiate basketball for UNLV. Under Jerry Tarkanian’s coaching, Augmon was an integral part of the Runnin’ Rebels’ 1990 NCAA Championship team. In 1991, Augmon was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year for his exceptional defensive play.

In addition to being chosen for the All-American team, he won the NABC Defensive Player of the Year title three times. The Atlanta Hawks picked Augmon ninth overall in the 1991 NBA Draft. During his time with the Hawks (from 1991 to 1996), he was a dependable player and strong defender. The 1992 NBA All-Rookie First Team included Augmon.

The Detroit Pistons acquired Augmon in a 1996 trade and kept him on the court until 1997. Following that, he played with the Portland Trail Blazers(1997–2001), the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets(2001–2004), and the Orlando Magic (2004–2006). In the National Basketball Association, Augmon was a mainstay for his defensive prowess, flexibility, and bench impact. After a long professional career, he called his quits in 2006.

Augmon made the switch to teaching when he retired from playing. From 2007 until 2011, he was an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets. From 2011 until 2016, he was an assistant coach at UNLV, his alma school. In 2016, Augmon resumed his coaching career by becoming an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.
