Anthony Patrick Hadley, better known as Toni Hadley, is a celebrated English singer-songwriter, actor, and radio presenter. Born on June 2, 1960, in Islington, London, Hadley rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the iconic 1980s new wave band Spandau Ballet. Known for his rich, soulful baritone voice, Hadley became one of the defining voices of the era, contributing to timeless hits like True, Gold, and Through the Barricades.

Hadley grew up in Islington, London, in a working-class family. From an early age, he showed an interest in music and performance. After attending Dame Alice Owen’s School in Hertfordshire, he joined a local band with his schoolmates, including Gary Kemp, who would later become Spandau Ballet’s principal songwriter.

Spandau Ballet formed in the late 1970s during the rise of the New Romantic movement. The band initially gained attention for their unique blend of funk, synthpop, and polished style, becoming a staple of London’s club scene. Their breakthrough came in 1983 with the album True, which spawned the chart-topping title track and established the band internationally.

During the 1980s, Spandau Ballet became one of Britain’s biggest musical exports, releasing hit albums such as Parade (1984) and Through the Barricades (1986). Hadley’s powerful vocals were key to the band’s success, earning him recognition as one of the best singers of his generation.
