As part of MLB’s first expansion into Canada, the Montreal Expos baseball team was founded in 1969. Until 2004, you could catch an Expos game in Montreal. They changed their name to reflect their new home city in 2005: the Washington Nationals.

Nationals Park, in Southeast D.C. near the Anacostia River, is where the team plays its home games. Red, white, and navy blue are the official team colors.

Despite starting poorly, the Nationals have emerged as a powerhouse in the NL East in recent years. The 2019 season became the club’s crowning achievement, as they prevailed against the Houston Astros in a dramatic seven-game World Series. The team’s first World Series championship came with this win.

Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer, and Juan Soto played essential roles in the Nationals’ recent success. The pitching staff and offense have consistently been the team’s strengths.
