Her mother was of Irish descent, while her father was of Mexican-American descent. Alana de la Garza was born to them. Her family was multilingual, and she was able to speak both English and Spanish well while she was growing up. She began to demonstrate an interest in the performing arts at an early age and took part in school plays as well as shows at local theaters.

Following the completion of her high school education in El Paso, de la Garza went on to pursue a degree in physical therapy at the University of Texas University at El Paso. Her enthusiasm for performing, on the other hand, compelled her to switch schools and enroll in the University of Texas at Austin, from where she ultimately graduated with a degree in drama.

During the latter part of the 1990s, De la Garza launched her career as an actress by securing guest appearances in several different television shows, including “Charmed,” “JAG,” and “Las Vegas.” The character of A.D.A. Connie Rubirosa in the long-running legal drama series “Law & Order” was the one that brought her to the forefront of the entertainment industry in the year 2001. Her portrayal of Rubirosa, which she did for a total of four seasons, garnered her plaudits from theater critics.

After her time on “Law & Order,” de la Garza continued to have success in the television industry. It was in the short-lived medical drama “Do No Harm” that she played the part of Dr. Lena Solis. She has had recurrent appearances on television shows such as “CSI: Miami” and “Scorpion.”
