The Italian-American family that Glenn Danzig grew up in was of the working class and lived in New Jersey. His early musical interests included punk rock and heavy metal, which he acquired a special fondness for. While he was still in high school, he started creating and playing his music, drawing inspiration from bands such as The Misfits and Black Sabbath.

Danzig, together with Jerry Only, who played bass, and Franché Coma, who played guitar, established the horror punk band The Misfits in the year 1977. Through their distinctive combination of punk rock and horror themes, the band was able to garner a cult following. They released albums that became legendary, such as “Walk Among Us” and “Static Age.” The unique singer and songwriter Danzig was a significant contributor to the formation of The Misfits’ sound and look.

Following his departure from The Misfits in 1983, Danzig established the band Samhain, which allowed him to further explore his fascination with ominous and occult topics. It was Samhain’s music that laid the framework for what would later be known as “horror punk.” Samhain’s music mixed elements of punk, gothic rock, and heavy metal. After releasing several albums, such as “Initium” and “November-Coming-Fire,” the band eventually transformed into Danzig.

Danzig established the band Danzig in 1987, and it eventually became his major musical avenue to express himself. The band’s first album, which bore the band’s name and was released in 1988, included the breakthrough track “Mother,” which became a mainstay on rock radio and established Danzig’s position as a solo artist. Additionally, subsequent albums, such as “Danzig II: Lucifuge” and “Danzig III: How the Gods Kill,” contributed to the further establishment of Danzig’s unique combination of heavy metal, blues, and gothic rock.
