Canadian actress, singer, and filmmaker Crystle Lightning was born on February 5, 1981, in Edmonton. She is of Cree heritage. Her flexibility and love of the arts are on full display in her substantial contributions to both the music and cinema sectors.

Lightning started appearing in commercials and theater shows when she was very young. In 1998, she made her acting debut in Chris Eyre’s “Smoke Signals,” and she eventually moved on to cinema and television. As a result of her breakout role in the independent highly praised film “Smoke Signals,” she quickly rose to fame and became a household name.

Often playing powerful, vibrant roles that represent her Indigenous roots, Lightning has performed in a multitude of film and television productions during her career. Her filmography includes “3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain” (1998), “American Pie Presents: Band Camp” (2005), and “The Reawakening” (2014), among others. Longmire, Southland, and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” are just a few of the television programs in which Lightning has made cameo appearances alongside her film career.

Lightning is a gifted singer-songwriter and musician in addition to being an accomplished actor. Along with her brother Cris “Crystle” Ramos, she established the rock band “LightningCloud,” where she sings lead. The two artists’ distinctive style is a reflection of their shared history and cultural background; it is a fusion of hip-hop, rock, and traditional Indigenous music.
