Jim Paek came into this world in Seoul, South Korea, on April 7, 1967. Formerly of the National Hockey League (NHL) and other professional leagues, he played ice hockey professionally. As a young boy, Paek and his family relocated to Canada, where he honed his hockey abilities.

Paek had a multi-team NHL career, including stops with the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins, where he was a standout defenseman. He had great success with the Penguins, helping them win the Stanley Cup in 1990–91 and 1991–92 back-to-back.

Jim Paek made the switch to coaching after hanging up his spikes. His coaching experience spans many levels, and he most notably worked as an assistant with the Detroit Red Wings’ American Hockey League club, the Grand Rapids Griffins. As a coach, he has worked on a global scale, most notably leading the national ice hockey team of South Korea.
