American actor and producer Tom Selleck was born on January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. He is well recognized for his portrayal as Thomas Magnum on the hit television series “Magnum, P.I.”In the 1960s, Selleck started appearing in supporting parts in movies and TV shows. The character of Magnum in the hit television series “Magnum, P.I.” (1980–1988) propelled him to stardom.

As a result of the series, he was nominated for and won the Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Earlier in his career, before “Magnum P.I.,” Selleck had already been well-known for his role as private detective Lance White in numerous episodes of “The Rockford Files.” The producers of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” wanted him to play Indiana Jones, but he had to turn down the role because of his commitment to “Magnum P.I.”

Selleck’s career has expanded beyond television to include a fruitful cinema career. He played the lead role in both “Three Men and a Baby” (1987) and its sequel, “Three Men and a Little Lady” (1990), both of which were box-office successes. In addition to “Quigley Down Under” (1990), “Mr. Baseball” (1992), and “In & Out” (1997), he has acted in other films.
