In the City of Angels, California, Gail Charles Goodrich came into this world on April 23, 1943. While a student at Sun Valley’s John H. Francis Polytechnic High School, he was a basketball superstar. While attending UCLA, Goodrich resumed his collegiate basketball career under the tutelage of famed coach John Wooden.

Goodrich was a star on the basketball court when he was a student at UCLA. He won the 1964 and 1965 NCAA titles while playing with future Hall of Famers like Walt Hazzard. In addition to his leadership qualities and scoring prowess, Goodrich was a lightning-fast player. The Los Angeles Lakers took Goodrich in the 1965 NBA Draft, selecting him as the third overall choice.

He was an NBA player for fourteen years, including stops with the Lakers, Suns, and Jazz. Drives to the hoop and long-range shooting were two of Goodrich’s signature moves, and he was a notorious scorer. Goodrich won a slew of awards over his time in the NBA.

He averaged 25.3 points per game in 1973–74, was named to the NBA All-Star team five times (1969–1973), and won an NBA championship in 1972 while playing with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 1974 All-NBA First Team also included Goodrich.
