A rapper, singer, and songwriter from the United States, Destin Choice Route was born on October 31, 1990. His stage name is JID, often spelled J.I.D. He first appeared with EarthGang in 2010 as a member of the band Spillage Village.

In 2017, he inked a deal with Dreamville Records, an Interscope label run by J. Cole. Zoink Gang, a hip-hop ensemble that also includes Smino, Buddy, and Guapdad 4000, is another group to which he belongs. Several music writers have praised his clever wordplay and smooth rhyming technique.

After publishing several independent projects, including Para Tu (2013), DiCaprio (2015), and Route of Evil (2012), JID started to receive attention (2015). “Never” was the first song from his 2017 debut album, The Never Story, which received positive reviews upon its release.

The tracks “151 Rum” and “Off Deez” (with J. Cole) off his 2018 sophomore album, DiCaprio 2, continued to get praise from critics. Together with the pop rock band Imagine Dragons, he released the track “Enemy” in 2021. It became his most successful and highest-charting hit to that point, reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100.
