American rapper Latto (previously Mulatto) and Big Latto (born Alyssa Michelle Stephens) are from Atlanta, Georgia. They came into this world on December 22, 1998. She made her reality TV debut in 2016 on Jermaine Dupri’s The Rap Game, where she competed as Miss Mulatto and ultimately won the first season. However, she turned down a record contract that came with her victory.

With the 2019 release of her first single “Bitch from da Souf,” Latto shot to fame; the song was double platinum-certified by the RIAA and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It served as the album’s first single when she signed with RCA Records, Queen of da Souf (2020).

It gave birth to the Gucci Mane–featured platinum–certified track “Muwop” and had a middling performance on the Billboard 200. Her 2021 honors include being selected “Global Push Artist of the Month” by MTV. After changing her name to Latto, her 2021 hit “Big Energy” brought her further mainstream fame.

The song was nominated for a Grammy for its live performance, reached number seven on the Year-End Hot 100 list, went triple platinum, and peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album 777 (2022) peaked at number fifteen on the Billboard 200, while the first song “Big Energy” from the album debuted at number sixteen.

With a 2022 “Breakthrough Artist” designation from Variety and a 2023 Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist, Latto was quite the lucky girl. Her cameo appearance on Jungkook’s 2023 single “Seven” was her first single to reach number one on the Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200.
