In 1977, MLB welcomed the Toronto Blue Jays as an expansion franchise. On April 7, 1977, they faced off against the Chicago White Sox in their first game. In Toronto and throughout Canada, the club swiftly established a devoted fan following.

The Blue Jays had a successful 1980s after spending a few years assembling the roster. They achieved a first in club history in 1985 by finishing first in the American League East division. Both in 1989 and 1991, they won their division again.

When the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993, it was the zenith of their success. The Blue Jays won their first World Series in 1992 and 1993, respectively, under manager Cito Gaston and with the help of superstars like Roberto Alomar, Joe Carter, and Dave Winfield.

After winning the World Series, the Blue Jays maintained their competitiveness into the new millennium. In 1995, 1999, and 2001, they reached the playoffs, although they never got beyond the American League Championship Series.
