They play professional basketball in the NBA as the Golden State Warriors and call San Francisco home. The Warriors are a professional basketball team from California representing the Pacific Division in the Western Conference of the NBA. Initially established in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962, adopting the city’s name. The name was later changed to Golden State to reflect the team’s location in 1971. The Chase Center is the club’s home arena.

The Warriors, headed by Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, and Neil Johnston (all of whom are now enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame), won the first-ever Basketball Association of America (BAA) title in 1947[c] and repeated the feat in 1956. The franchise concluded the 1964–65 NBA season with the poorest record (17–63) in the league after trading away star player Wilt Chamberlain in January 1965.

The pick of Rick Barry by the Warriors four months after the transaction significantly shortened their time spent rebuilding. It is generally agreed that the 1975 NBA Finals victory by the Warriors, led by brothers Barry and Jamaal Wilkes, is one of the most significant shocks in league history.

After a rough 1980s, the “Run TMC” trio of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin guided the club to consistent postseason appearances in the 1990s. Andre Iguodala, a defensive swingman, was awarded Finals MVP after Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green led the club to another title in 2015.
