Joseph Fidler Walsh came into this world in Wichita, Kansas, USA, on November 20, 1947. His parents fostered his passion for music from an early age, and he grew up in a musical household. Walsh was already a gifted musician when he picked up the guitar as a youngster.

The James Gang was a rock band from Cleveland, Ohio, and Walsh became a member in the late ’60s. His contributions to the band’s albums, including “Yer’ Album” (1969), “James Gang Rides Again” (1970), and “Thirds” (1971), were as lead guitarist, singer, and principal composer. Walsh became a rising figure in the music business because of his innovative guitar-playing and songwriting abilities, which enabled the James Gang to achieve popularity.

Walsh decided to go solo in 1971, leaving the James Gang behind. In the same year, he released “Barnstorm,” his first solo album, which contained the smash song “Rocky Mountain Way.” This song became iconic for Walsh and is still a mainstay in classic rock today.

Solo albums by Walsh such as “The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get” (1973), “But Seriously, Folks…” (1978), and “There Goes the Neighborhood” (1981) were popular throughout the ’70s and ’80s. His solo albums demonstrated his varied musical taste, which included rock, blues, country, and funk.
